Jalen Suggs' shot to beat UCLA among best buzzer-beaters in men's NCAA Tournament history

Few things are more exciting than a game-winning play with no time left on the clock.

Even fewer things are more exciting than a game-winning buzzer-beater in March Madness.

We got another fantastic shot for the buzzer-beater pantheon Saturday night as freshman Jalen Suggs sent unbeaten Gonzaga to the men's national championship game with his deep 3-pointer as time expired against No. 11 UCLA. 

The shot, which moves the Bulldogs' one step closer to becoming the first undefeated men's basketball team since Indiana in 1976, was a thrilling end to a thrilling game. But how does it compare to buzzer-beaters of the past?

Baylor coach Kim Mulkey suggests NCAA 'dump COVID testing' for Final Four


Baylor Lady Bears coach Kim Mulkey is facing criticism for remarks she made about the NCAA's COVID-19 protocols after her team's 69-67 loss to UConn on Monday. 

Followingg her team's exit from the NCAA Women's Tournament, Mulkey, unprompted, suggested the NCAA drop testing altogether, reducing to zero the risk a team can't play because of a positive coronavirus test.

Chris Scott asked to explain quarter-time encounter with Lions


The AFL has asked Geelong coach Chris Scott to explain his behaviour in Friday night’s testy exchange with Brisbane players at quarter-time. His former football boss Steve Hocking, now the AFL’s football manager, has sent Scott a please explain over the incident, asking for his version of events from the fiery encounter with Lachie Neale and other Brisbane players at GMHBA Stadium.

Union president says MLB players ready to discuss moving All-Star Game from Georgia in wake of voter-restriction laws


The 91st MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to be played in Atlanta this July. But on Thursday, in the wake of voting-restriction legislation signed into law by the Georgia governor, the executive director of the MLB Players Association said the players are ready to discuss moving their annual midsummer exhibition out of Georgia.

Soccer-Ronaldo fumes as Serbia snatch draw with Portugal, Belgium held


Cristiano Ronaldo stormed off the pitch before fulltime when he was denied a clear stoppage-time winner in a 2-2 draw in Serbia, while Belgium were held 1-1 by the Czech Republic in World Cup qualifiers on Saturday. 

Ronaldoo threw off the captain's armband and headed for the tunnel when his effort was cleared by Serbia defender Stefan Mitrovic after it had crossed the line, with Dutch referee Danny Makkelie waving play on.

Arkansas storms back to evade historic upset bid from Oral Roberts, reach men's Elite Eight


Arkansas was down by 12 points five minutes into the second half Saturday and was on the verge of being on the wrong side of a historic upset. But much like its previous two men's NCAA Tournament games, the Razorbacks stormed back for a 72-70 victory to advance to the Elite Eight.

France 23-27 Scotland: Wales crowned Six Nations champions as visitors win in Paris despite Finn Russell red card


Wales were crowned Six Nations champions after Scotland claimed a stunning 27-23 win over France. France needed to score four tries and win by at least 21 points to win their first championship in 11 years but they never came close, with Scotland continuing to threaten an upset despite the dismissal of Finn Russell with nine minutes remaining.

Will countries boycott China’s Olympics in 2022?


In 2015, WHEN the International Olympic Committee (ioc) awarded the 2022 Winter Olympics to Beijing, some people criticised the decision because of China’s human-rights record. Just in the previous few weeks China had rounded up hundreds of civil-society activists across the country.

Grand Canyon Basketball Star Oscar Frayer Dead at 23 Just Days After Playing in NCAA Tournament


Grand Canyon University is mourning the loss of basketball player Oscar Frayer. According to the school, the 23-year-old athlete died in a car crash in California on March 23. The GCU Antelopes team website states that Oscar's sister, Andrea Moore, and a friend also passed in the accident.

On Wednesday, "The Morning Bull Show" host Rob Lederman compared his toaster settings to Serena Williams


Wednesday's controversial broadcast first made waves after ESPN reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques shared a 40-second excerpt on Twitter "just in case y’all missed it," he said. In the clip, Lederman compared his toaster settings to Serena Williams, Halle Berry and Gayle King's skin tones, despite acknowledging that he "may get into trouble for this."
