AOC showers dozens of vulnerable House Dems with campaign cash

Dozens of House Democrats facing tough races in 2022 raked in thousands from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s leadership PAC, a move that may cause headaches for their reelection campaigns.

Federal Election Commission filings released Thursday shed light on 31 Democrats who received the campaign cash infusion.

The firebrand 'Squad' member pushed $5,000 transfers to the vulnerable incumbents from her Courage to Change leadership PAC, which she created last year to boost progressive Democrats. Many of the House members who received the funds, however, are viewed as moderate in comparison to Ocasio-Cortez, which may not sit well with swing voters in their competitive districts.  

According to the filings, representatives such as Pennsylvania’s Matt Cartwright and Susan Wild, New Jersey’s Mikie Sherrill, Nevada’s Susan Lee, and Virginia’s Abigail Spanberger were recipients of Ocasio-Cortez’s cash (full list below).

In a sign that some Democrats view Ocasio-Cortez’s money as toxic, four lawmakers returned the donations days after they hit their campaign coffers. The PAC’s filings show that as of March 31, Georgia’s Carolyn Bourdeaux, Pennylvania’s Conor Lamb, Michigan’s Elissa Slotkin, and Wisconsin’s Ron Kind sent the donations back to Ocasio-Cortez’s PAC.

Prince Philip paid ultimate tribute by two grandchildren just weeks before his death

Prince Philip had two of his great-grandchildren named after him just weeks before his death in a touching tribute.

Royal cousins Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall both decided on the middle name Philip for their children born in February and March this year.

Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank had their first child on February 9, and called him August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

The couple said that they had chosen Philip in honour of the Duke of Edinburgh who had been admitted to hospital that week.

FOURTH site halts J&J vaccinations within three days: Georgia clinic pauses shots over eight 'adverse reactions' after similar holds in Colorado, Iowa and North Carolina

Yet another clinic has paused vaccinations with Johnson & Johnson's shot after eight people suffered 'adverse reactions' at the Cummings, Georgia site.

Officials did not specify what types of reactions the eight people had to the shot, but said they were 'consistent with common reactions in adults being vaccinated with any vaccine,' and cited the number of cases as the trigger for the pause. 

However, the eight people who had reactions were among 425 people who got the J&J shot at that site and, ostensibly, did not have any noticeable reactions. 

The same thing has happened at clinics in three other states this week. 

J&J vaccinations have now resumed at a Colorado site that reported 11 people had had bad reactions to the one-dose vaccine and two were taken to hospitals.

Patrisse Cullors, a 37-year-old 'artist, organizer, and freedom fighter', has bought a three bedroom, three bathroom house in Topanga Canyon, complete with a separate guest house and expansive back yard, reports The home is described in the real estate listing as having 'a vast great room with vaulted and beamed ceilings'. 

The realtors write that the large back yard is 'ideal for entertaining or quietly contemplating cross-canyon vistas framed by mature trees'.

Cybercriminals Bought Facebook Ads for a Fake Clubhouse App That Was Riddled With Malware

Cybercriminals have been pushing Facebook users to download a Clubhouse app “for PC,” something that doesn’t exist.

The app is actually a trojan designed to inject malware into your computer. The popular new invite-only chat app is only available on iPhone but worldwide interest in the platform has risen and users are clamoring for Android and, presumably, “PC” versions.

Per TechCrunch, the malicious campaign used Facebook ads and pages to direct platform users to a series of fake Clubhouse websites. Those sites, hosted in Russia, asked visitors to download the app, which they promised was just the most recent version of the product: “We tried to make the experience as smooth as possible. You can check it out right now!” one proclaims.

Man Who Swears He's 'Not a Dumbass' Arrested for Attempting to Murder the Internet

A Texas man who, according to court documents, recently stated that he is definitely “not a dumbass,” is now potentially facing decades in prison for plotting an alleged terrorist attack to “blow up” the internet.

Seth Aaron Pendley, 28, was taken into custody by the FBI on Thursday, after attempting to procure what he thought were explosives from an undercover agent in Fort Worth, Texas, a federal affidavit shows (the bombs were, in fact, fake). According to authorities, Pendley wanted to use C-4, a powerful plastic explosive, to target an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in Ashburn, Virginia.

Pendley’s target, Ashburn, is home to over 100 data centers and is the site where a majority of the so-called “Cloud” exists. The arrestee allegedly stated in online chats that he wanted to “kill off about 70% of the internet” and, thereby, annoy “the oligarchy” and, naturally, the deep state.

India’s Covid cases hit another record as state with most infections locks down

India reported a record 145,384 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday and the highest number of deaths in more than five months, as it grapples with an overwhelming second-wave of infections that has forced the state of Maharashtra to impose a weekend lockdown.

Deaths rose by 794 to a total of 168,436, health ministry data showed.

India’s overall case load has swelled to 13.21 million, the third-highest globally, behind the United States and Brazil.

India has reported the most number of cases in the world in the past week, breaching the 100,000 mark for the first time on Monday and four times after that.

China slaps Alibaba with $2.8 billion fine in anti-monopoly probe

Chinese regulators hit Alibaba with a 18.23 billion yuan ($2.8 billion) fine in its anti-monopoly investigation of the tech giant, saying it abused its market dominance.

Regulators opened a probe into the company’s monopolistic practices in December. The investigation’s main focus was a practice that forces merchants to choose one of two platforms, rather than being able to work with both.

In a Saturday statement, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) said this policy stifles competition in China’s online retail market and “infringes on the businesses of merchants on the platforms and the legitimate rights and interests of consumers,” according to a CNBC translation of a Chinese-language statement.

Mrs. World arrested for pulling crown from Mrs. Sri Lanka's head, allegedly causing injuries

Reigning Mrs. World was arrested on Thursday for pulling the crown off Mrs. Sri Lanka's head, allegedly causing the beauty pageant queen to suffer injuries. 

Earlierr this week, Mrs. Sri Lanka, whose name is Pushpika De Silva, accused Caroline Jurie, the winner of the Mrs. World 2020 competition who is also from Sri Lanka, of injuring her head after she stormed the stage and declared that a rule states the winner of the contest must be married and not divorced. 

 

"There is a rule that prevents women who have already been married and are divorced, so I am taking steps to make the crown go to second place," Caroline Jurie states in a video of the incident posted by the Colombo Gazette. After a brief, non-violent struggle to get the crown from De Silva’s head, Jurie placed it on the runner up, prompting De Silva to walk off stage. 

However, in a Facebook post about the incident De Silva noted that, although she is separated, she is "an un divorced woman" and therefore feels that the crown was improperly and "insultfully" taken from her

Michigan HS sports group says no to Whitmer call for 2-week break: ‘We’re going to play’

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Friday called for school sports to halt games for two weeks to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. 

Butt the governor’s request was not an order – so the head of the state’s high school sports association says the games will go on as scheduled, unless local districts opt out. "We’re going to play two days of basketball and really make no changes for the spring," 

Mark Uyl, executive director of the Michigan High School Athletic Association said in response to Whitmer, according to the Detroit Free Press. 

 

"We followed the orders – every order – going back to July," Uyl continued. "Whenever the orders have allowed us to play, we’ve played. So, obviously, local schools will have decisions to make, it could be on a league-wide basis. But once we get through basketball tomorrow night, everything is outdoors
